The Power Of Redeciding

Feb 25, 2021

We make decisions all day...

These decisions overtime become our routines...

These decisions become our beliefs...

and eventually our subconscious behaviours...

So therefore eventually they define US...

Sounds cool... The brain wants to automate as much as possible and therefore not chew up energy having to decide the same thing over and over and therefore free up capacity for other things...

However... here lies the danger...

If you are reading this I expect you are interested in GROWING...

Either growing some aspect of yourself personally or as a team member or a leader, teacher or coach... (this includes being the leader of your community, family or children)...

However... if we are running on autopilot... the subconscious and now automated decisions... we are potentially stuck in the past...

The decisions in the past may have been perfect back then... and they may be perfect now... however there is a powerful skill that you can develop to ensure these decisions are still serving you and not in-fact holding you back...

Also, let us also acknowledge, some of these 'decisions' may not have been decided by you. Instead they may have been handed to you from parents, friends, situations or social pressures or religions.

So what is the skill?

"Observe and Redecide"

The first part... observe yourself in situations, take an external view of the situation from an observers viewpoint.

This concept was introduced to me back when I was 14 when I read a book called The Inner Game Of Tennis... It turns out this is a well referenced book in the Sports Psychology field.

The concept introduced was Self 1 and Self 2... Essentially to be both 'in the situation and observing the situation' at the same time...

Therefore you can both react to any situation and also see the situation actually for what it is...

The power of being the observer means you are out of the weeds and now in a different dimension of perspective.

This perspective is what gives you the ability to 'redecide' if you believe in your automatic preprogrammed response.

Once you redecide, you are recommitting to this belief with updated knowledge and maturity.

You are now adding in your life experiences to this new situation and seeing if hte old rules still hold true.

Do the old beliefs move you in the direction you would like to go or are they actually holding you back.

If they are holding you back or make you feel uncomfortable, you can go deeper into why...

Is there a fear? A fear of judgement, uncertainty, safety, survival?

These beliefs have served you to this point. They have kept you safe they have kept you alive, they have been your friend... and for this you must thank them...

However, is it time to let some go? Is it time to redecide if these are actually true?

In the world right now we are going through so many changes. We are seeing so many aspects of our society that are evolving and many people observing and redeciding what feels right to them now...

I honestly believe if you can look at any situation and circumstance and observe your initial reaction and see the situation for what it is, you can live a rich and exploration driven life...

This opens up so many more topics like confirmation bias, the ego and how business growth is personal growth...

I'll save these for another time...

So where in your life can you be the observer?

A great way is to simply ask 'why?' a few times to your belief...

For example...

Home cleaners are expensive... Why? Maybe once in your life this was true, but is it true now? Could it be a better spend of your time to earn or relax while someone else can do that task for you and then you provide them with an income source...

Business Is risky... Why? Ok maybe in the past it was expensive and out of your sphere of knowledge, but maybe not it is less risky than before. In fact, working for someone else might be even riskier than being in control of your own income...

What else...

Great accountants are expensive... Maybe when you were earning a certain amount, but as you grow the amount they can guide you or save you in time may actually make them virtually free...

I don't like exercising in the morning... Potentially this may have been true during a phase of your life, but maybe now you go to bed earlier, eat cleaner and maybe seeing the sunrise would bring you energy like you have never felt before!

I could go on forever...

This can apply to skills, friendships, relationships, anything in life...

So, be the observer, then redecide...

I believe there is untapped magic on the other side!

What does this bubble up for you?
