The Hidden But Inevitable Cost Of Inaction…

One thing is for sure…

The future is coming…

And I expect our goal as individuals is to be a part of it…

To be ‘alive’ so to speak…

So on the surface it seems easy and obvious…

Yep, if we don’t die we will be a part of it…

However, you are already living in the future… yesterday’s future…

Yes, today you are living in the past's future…

I think this is like an echo…

What you are experiencing today is based on the echo of actions and decisions of the past…

Good, bad, whatever, it’s just a fact to acknowledge…

How distant is that echo… who knows…

Different times for different things…

For example…

Someone’s health… that is an echo of months, years or decades in varying levels…

Someone's skills, say sports, years of practice depending on the levels at which they play…

Business opportunities… maybe years of building relationships and understanding markets and your offerings…

Relationships, friendships… years of experiences, discussions, shared time etc…

Relationships with children… years, leading by example, shared experiences, showing strength and trust…

The old saying… you plant the tree /garden a long time before you are hungry…

However… These days we are obsessed with shortened reward proximity…

Food is a car or bike ride away…

Purchases are a credit card swipe away…

It may be seen as an amazing experience of modern society however maybe it is a false comfort…

When things feel comfortable I get uncomfortable…

What is this comfort leading to? Just check… maybe it’s ok but maybe it’s not…

What will be the echo of this comfort…

So…

The old saying of… the best way to predict the future is to create it…

What can be done today that will make a better tomorrow…

For you, for your kids, for your loved ones…

What if assumed norms change… apparently they do…

What if life circumstances change…

Would the future you, wish the past you, had taken more action?

So…

the echo…

The invitation…

Create your future present today 🙂

PS I was looking at some of these houses and wondering why they some didn’t have driveways…

Many of the homes were initially built before cars in the 1920’s

People, maybe family, are enjoying the benefits of other people’s past efforts accumulated to today…

So interesting to see and experience time and the efforts required…

I look at the concrete staircases and wonder how long they have been there and how many people benefit from that effort…

Anyway that’s a topic for another post 🙂
