Life’s constant juggle

Life’s constant juggle between enjoying the moment and delayed gratification... I have done a combination of these through the years.

When I was young, I went to university and at the same time played tennis full time. I also wrote software to sell and make money in my spare time. I think I went ‘out’ to parties or night clubs maybe 4 times...

I remember several years watching ‘new years’ midnight tick over on my computer screen while I was building and dreaming of a big future...

When I moved from the city to the beach 24 years ago, I decided to live where I wanted to spend my spare time and I’ll work out what to do for work from there.

This quiet coastal town meant thinking laterally about generating income. But what I was able to do was enjoy nature and the beach while working.

Some days I would walk to the beach 8 or 9 times to solve a problem or take a phone call. Sometimes the problem was solved as my feet touched the sand and I would run home and get it down on paper.

I had a 30m phone chord to connect to the internet while sitting on the deck. In 2002 I paid thousands for a wireless pci card for my laptop and access point for my internet so I could access from the upstairs deck and see the ocean when I worked. I bought an interrupted power supply battery to give me an extra hour or battery life so I could work in my car and watch the ocean while working.

The ocean is my energy and my playground...

So, the delayed gratification and the life right now... and a little of both at the same time...

What I have also observed in the last 10 years is that people who also enjoy the present, also create huge futures!

They play big and therefore they up level their whole world...

They dream big, do big projects and get big rewards...

And they play WITH big dreamers and doers too...

Sharing memories this time of year where installs have a week on an island paradise...

I am certainly grateful for these times I enjoyed the moment with awesome people!
